OUTSIDER ART FAIR NEW YORK 2017

Veröffentlicht am 23.01.2017
James Kalm makes his yearly pilgrimage to the twenty-fifth iteration of the Outsider Art Fair. As the popularity of Outsider Art, Art Brut, and folk art increases, and the ideas and notions of producing work with no regard for the academy, the market or society’s tastes, more contemporary avant-garde artists are trying out this approach. As with many previous visits, this year’s fair presents some new discoveries for viewers to savor. The Chris Byrne Gallery presents a group of hand drawn comic books by Frank Johnson. This body of work was created in secret over a fifty year period and may represent a very early manifestation of “underground comix”. We’ll also glimpse major works by: Courttney Cooper, Paul Laffolay and Carlo Zinelli. The musical introduction is provided by the Carlos Casado Project. This program was recorded January 20, 2017 in Chelsea, New York City
