Romare Bearden Bayou Fever at D C MOORE GALLERY

Veröffentlicht am 24.03.2017
James Kalm knows what it means to be a fan of an artist, and how that attitude can change one’s view of art and life. The work of Romare Bearden (1911-1988) has been an important touchstone of your correspondent since his teenage years. “Bayou Fever and Related Works” showcases a suite of small collages produced by Bearden in 1979 that were intended as maquettes for a planned dance/ballet performance. Bearden hoped to work again with Alvin Ailey as choreographer. These intimate works and related pieces present all the elements that make Bearden so potent as an artist, bold color, jazzy compositions, pungent narrative content, and a confidence of handling that is masterful. This program was recorded March 23, 2017.
